Participation in physical activity and recreation programs in the burnout of Primary Education Teachers
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of physical activity and recreation in the burnout of elementary school teachers and thus the quality of life of teachers. The sample consisted of a total of 260 people (154 women and 106 men) aged 23-56 years (M = 45.5, SD = 6.2) of a prefecture of Central Macedonia. For the evaluation the scale of burnout Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI, Maslach & Jackson, 1986) and the Godin Leisure-Time Exercise questionnaire (Godin & Shepard, 1985) were used. Data analysis was done through the use of the SPSS statistical analysis program (version 20.0). The statistical analysis found no statistically significant differences for physical activity and burnout. Moreover it revealed no statistically significant differences in research factors regarding the variable of gender. Results showed that teachers experience low levels of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization and high levels of personal achievement. In conclusion, the survey indicated that the participants engaged in physical activity a few times a week but not often and that have low levels of burnout, with women having both higher participation rates in physical activity and a higher level of burnout.References
