HURTHLE CELL ADENOMAS AND CARCINOMAS OF ΤΗΕ THYROID GLAND
Abstract
We reviewed 20 cases of Hurthle cell tumors of the thyroid from a total of 1518 patients for various thyroid disorders, during the period from 1978 to 1992. There were 18 adenomas and 2 carcinomas amongst the 14 women and 6 men, mean average of 50 years old. The preoperative diagnosis was cold nodule in 13 cases from which 11 Hurthle cell adenomas and 2 carcinomas apeared. Preoperative diagnosis οf multinodular goiter was made in 5 cases οf which all were histologicaly adenomas. Two HC adenomas were dίagnosed preoperatively by F.N.A. Biopsy in patient with nodular goiter. Greece is an endemic country and so we consider that surgery is deffinetely recommended for cases of these tumors.
