CHEMOPROFYLAXIS ΙΝ JAUNDICED PATIENTS

Abstract

This study concerns a comparison between a pre and a postoperative antibiotics administration. 71 patients have been studies (38 with lithiasis in the common bile duct and 33 with a tumor in extrahepatic bile ducts. All patients had a bile culture which was positive in 29 out of 38 patients with lithiasis (76.3%) while in cancer-jaundiced patients the positive bile culture was 8 of them (32%). The most often found bacteria was Ε coli (44.7%), streptococcus (13.2%, enterococcus (11%) and staphylococcus (7.9%) in non-malignant patients. In malignant patients the bacteria was E coli (21.2%), Klebsilla (15.2%) and coccus (15 %). Ιn the first group (36 patients) a cephalosporin of first generation was administered 1 gr. 2-3 hours before Surgery and 1 gr. x 4 for 24 or 48 hours. Ιn the second group (35 patients) the same drug and doses was administrated for 4 days. There were found in the first group 4 complications and in the second group 7 complications.
