ENTERIC METAPLACIA OF GALLBLADDER MUCOSA AND ιτs SIGNIFlCANCE
Abstract
The aim of this study was the investigation of gallbladder mucosa pathology and specially the existence of enteric metaplasia and the relation between metaplasie and age and sex of the patients, Ca of the gallbladder and preoperative cholocystogram and cholangiogram. 148 gallbladder were examined (12 cases of cancer of the gallbladder were involred). The incidence of enteric metaplasia was significantly increased (Ρ<0.001) when patients were over 60 years old and when there was no sign of the gallbladder in cholocystogram. Ιn Ca of gallbladder cases a 66.6% enteric metaplasia was found. Ιt is concluded that enteric metaplasia is a common finding in chronic cholecystitis and in Ca of the gallbladder specially in elderly patients.References
