Abstract

This survey aims to investigate whether factors such as sport, age, and athletic experience, modulate team sport athletes’ levels of coaching behavior, satisfaction and anger-aggression.  The sample consisted of 131 men and 143 women athletes of national categories from the sports of basketball, volleyball and handball.  Three questionnaires were used as measurement instruments: a) the «Athletes’ Satisfaction» questionnaire of Chelladurai and Riemer (1997), which has been adapted and used in Greek population by Theodorakis and Bebetsos (2003), b) the «Coaching Behavior» questionnaire of Williams and his colleagues (2003),which has been adapted and used in Greek population by Zourbanos, Theodorakis, and Hatzigeorgiadis (2004) and c) the «Anger &Aggression» questionnaire (CAAS) of Maxwell and Moores (2007) which has been translated and used in Greece by Bebetsos, Christoforidis and Mantis (2008).  According to the results, significant differences were presented in terms of (1) sport: a) on anger and, b) on aggression.  In term of (2) sex: a) on anger, b) on aggression, c) on positive reinforcement, and d) on negative reinforcement.  Additionally, (3) weekly practice-time, groups differentiated according to levels of: a) anger, and b) positive reinforcement.  In conclusion, research confirms the crucial role that certain psychological factors play on athletes’ performance.
