Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the risk factors which were correlated with elderly members’ osteoporosis of 1st Komotini’s KAPI. The study’s population was 112 elderly patients with osteoporosis. Data’s collection was held with specially designed for research’s needs questionnaire. For the statistical analysis, the program SPSS was used. 95.5% of patients were women, 13 of them Muslims and 94 orthodox. From the results, a statistical important correlation between gender, alcohol (p=0.000) and smoking revealed (p=0.000), resulting in men’s osteoporosis growth, while religion, in Muslim women with osteoporosis, was significantly correlated to low amount of exercise (p=0.002) and pregnancy below 20 years old. Statistical important correlation was found between age and senile dementia (p=0.002) to osteoporosis provocation in first age group members, those who were 80 and above 80 years old. It is concluded that the differences which were found in risk factors’ effect, on every osteoporotic group which was examined, reflect cultural specificities of the participants. The thorough investigation within primary medical care and the design of educational programs for the elderly, will lead to the avoidance of osteoporotic complications and to quality of life improvement concerning frail age groups.
